Doing More with
Less
|
|
Application
hosting is one of several IT outsourcing models. It's increasingly
being evaluated by organizations for a combination of tactical,
strategic, and transformation reasons. A business decision to outsource
typically demands both cost reductions and service level improvements
to be seriously considered. At a very minimum, outsourcing must
have cost-neutral impacts.
How is it then that application hosting can deliver cost reductions
while achieving service level improvements? Not a bad question
considering the current economic climate.
The contents of this month's articles, tools, and case studies focus on
how CedarCrestone's application hosting can deliver superior services
at a lower total cost. It's through integrating deep-industry and
Oracle-stack specialization across technology, people, and process that
our Customers can do more for less.
Technology. Enterprise
solutions span multiple technology components. Primary and
secondary data centers, facilities, infrastructure, networks, systems,
and all the underlying hardware and software that together comprise
hosting system environments. CedarCrestone's application hosting
employs best-of-breed technology components across the board. We have
architected systems from the ground up to provide enterprise-class
services to the many. Nearly all components are either scaled or
shared across customers, driving per-unit technology costs
down. Our vendor contracts have been negotiated with material
volume discounts. All technology-component replenishments and
upgrades are included over the contract's term, thus
incorporating a full-technology view with hard-fee stability and
commitment. With
deep specialization in the Oracle application and technology stack,
CedarCrestone scales and drives efficiencies into its underlying
technologies in ways not feasible in individual customer environments.
This leads to enhanced system capabilities delivered for lower total
costs.
People.
Technology is rendered useless without the specialized people and
skills to make it all work. In the enterprise application space,
this involves leveraging many resource types across the technology
lifecycle. Lifecycle functions include planning, architecting,
implementing, administering, and replenishing/ upgrading all underlying
technologies. Resource needs are extensive and include senior
executives and directors responsible for strategic and business
planning, line operational management, and the technical and functional
staff to support all underlying technologies.
CedarCrestone
employs highly specialized resources experienced in supporting
technologies across the Oracle-stack lifecycle. CedarCrestone
resources are shared across many customers and span the resource value
chain inclusive of both onshore and offshore personnel. When customers support systems
internally, limited internal resources are often spread across numerous
administrative and industry applications, thus specialization and
commitment levels can be a challenge. Non-administrative customer
priorities can impede the ability to deliver businesses with access to
the right Oracle resource skill set at the right time.
Process.
People support technology through defined operating approaches,
processes, and procedures. Hosting providers are heavily
incentivized to refine and hone their processes to deliver on-going
productivity gains. CedarCrestone's application hosting
specializes solely on the Oracle application and technology lifecycle,
thus enabling world-class, consistent results for Oracle solutions that
are not otherwise achievable through more general processes not honed
for Oracle. Increasingly,
we see customers focused on developing processes and solutions to
deliver expanded and improved services to their business versus
individually administering underlying technology which are not core to
their business.
Ultimately, whether a customer opts to leverage a 3rd party for
application hosting will lie with the economic justification that comes
through a close evaluation of options. No two situations are the
same and each requires a thorough review to determine what will and
won't work. Cost reduction, cost avoidance, opportunity creation,
and other intangible impacts all play into this evaluation. Read
on to find out more about CedarCrestone's application hosting and how
it has enabled customers to Do
More for Less.

Hosting Justification
Worksheet
|
|
With
today's economic struggles, CedarCrestone realizes the greater challenges
that IT faces when economically justifying any initiative. CedarCrestone
has developed a series of Outsourcing white papers which provide thought
leadership for those who are considering a hosted solution. The fourth
white paper in the series entitled "Economic Justification for Hosting"
contains a "Hosting Justification Worksheet" and addresses the
four categories of savings and benefits as it pertains to hosting:
- Cost reduction
- Cost avoidance
- Opportunity creation
- Other benefits and tangibles
The worksheet is
freely available to anyone who is interested. Likewise, our
management consultants are also available at any time (and at no cost) to
assist in the usage and application of this tool.
You may contact
any of our management consultants by sending an email to contact@cedarcrestone.com.
