Introductions/Technology Assessment Overview (10 Min)
Provide introductions to those involved and to review the objectives for the Technology Assessment and clearly
define to everyone what they will get out of the session.
Current Architecture/Projects Whiteboard Session (45 min)
Get a sense of what systems interact with Customer Information Systems (CIS) and Financials that the organization is utilizing today.
Take a look at the various systems and how they integrate or don't. Make sure everyone is on the same page.
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Overview (45 Min)
This section answers to the question "What is SOA?" in a non-technical manner. We will expose the forces behind
this trend, the essential concepts of SOA, and how organizations can benefit from adopting SOA.
Energy & Utilities Reference Architecture (30 Min)
This section introduces the Energy & Utilities Reference Architecture. The Reference Architecture takes into account the common systems an Energy & Utilities organization has in place and defines how Oracle Fusions Middleware can be leveraged. Oracle's Fusion Middleware provides a set of tools that assist organizations in developing and deploying SOA-based applications, and integrating legacy and end-of-life systems. The discussion of the Reference Architecture will provide insight into best practices with regards to service portfolio lifecycle, design patterns, and tools.
Solution Development (60 Min)
Customer-provided Use Cases are discussed and solutions are white boarded. The objective here is to demonstrate value the value of SOA and identify projects that would be a good fit for a first SOA project in order to gain experience and a win for SOA deployment. The chosen project should enable enterprises to "walk before you run" while the SOA principles are applied and tactical activities are worked through.
